Schedule: Our tryout process will consist of two open tryouts and two invite tryouts. Anyone from the community is welcome to attend the open tryouts - all we ask is that you complete the Registration Form below. If you require any special tryout accommodations, please make note of these in the interest form. Mallard is committed to giving players the opportunity to pick the team that best suits them; out of respect to the community, we will never enforce a deadline for players to accept/reject their spots if they are still in the tryout process for another team. Cost: For roster players, the 2025 season cost is set at a fixed $850. This amount will cover vehicle rentals, gas, lodging, bid fees, and practice fields. It does not include costs for uniforms and air fare; players will make these purchases on their own. As both a financial and environmental effort, we re-use our same white jerseys and shorts from year-to-year; returners will only be required to purchase the dark jerseys. For practice players, the 2025 season cost is set at a fixed $150. Our program does a lot to provide accessibility to players with financial constraints, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that finances do not prevent a player from being on our team. If you suspect you will require financial assistance, please be comfortable and ready to communicate these needs with the team leadership!
Players: The USA Ultimate events we attend limit us to only 26 players on our event rosters. But Mallard still builds our team well beyond 26 players each summer. We afford players the opportunity to join the team as practice players. Practice players on Mallard are treated the same as roster players. The one and only differentiator between practice players and roster players is that roster players will have priority in filling the event roster for tournaments we attend. Practice players on Mallard are held to the same standards and expectations as roster players. We will never prohibit our practice players from playing on other teams for the USA Ultimate postseason championship series.
